Of rectangular form, the flat sides taper to a smaller flat base, a large rectangular depression in the centre together with a stone pestle of conical form.

In order to prepare the coloured inks used by the scribes and painters, it was necessary to grind the pigments and then mix them with a gum or similar medium using palettes and grinders such as this example.

Condition: Intact and in good condition overall with minor losses to the edges and surface, showing good signs of usage.  A  great example.

Dimensions: 3.3 inches (8.5 centimeters) x 2.25 inches (5.7 centimeters) x 0.8 inches (2 centimeters)

Provenance:  Dr Ulrich Mueller private Swiss collection acquired between 1968-1978.
