a lively composition with the center featuring a Medusa mask, four dolphins frolic at each corner with foliage between, all within a rope border. Roman lead sarcophagi were unique to the Eastern Mediterranean, specifically Phoenicia. For similar lead sarcophagi, see p. 143-148 in McCann, Roman Sarcophagi in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
