an important necklace comprising twenty five (25) palmettes of fine blue faience, each with flat back, the front molded in raised relief.  Produced in moulds in the same manner as the bezels of faience rings, each element is separated by tiny blue glass and high karat gold bead spacers.  Restrung with modern 18K solid gold s-clasp.

Faience palmettes, such as these examples are typically found on the decorative broad collars of the 18th dynasty where the manufacture of multicolored faience had been perfected to an astonishing degree.  Costume jewellery in faience was in demand for a variety of customers from low-ranking officials to the royal family.

Condition: All beads are intact and in excellent condition overall, the necklace has been restrung and can be worn.

Dimensions:  Length:  45.5cm (18 inches)

Provenance:   Private Florida collection, acquired in the 1960's and then by descent.
